Fresco: "MMXVII (2017)"

Anthony Colletti aka Fresco is a Hip Hop artist born and raised in Rockford, Illinois. Fresco Graduated from Madison Media Institute earning a degree in Audio Engineering. I first was introduced to Fresco after watching a couple of his freestyle battles on YouTube such as GrindTime and "America's Largest Hip Hop Festival" Scribble Jam.

What is behind the name Fresco?
Fresco means Fresh in Italian, I'm fresh and Italian so I thought it fit. I actually got the name from DaVinci's art style awhile back.

When did you start to create music?
I used to dabble and write verses, but I didn't take music seriously until this past march when I began working with Soleternity. He's been a huge inspiration and it's been a pleasure to work with such a seasoned vet.

How did your involvement with Battle Rap come about?
Well I won every freestyle tournament there is to win in Chicago / Milwaukee Grillz N Skillz, Scribble Jam Prelims, Mic Club Tournament, Rhyme Spitters etc. I went undefeated until I finally took my first loss at scribble jam but that's when I was asked to be part of a league called Grindtime. From there I went on to travel to Canada, Australia and England to dominate battles.

Are you working on any new projects (albums, mixtapes) or collabs?
I have a new project called MMXVII (2017) dropping with Soleternity before the end of the year and it is pretty much the tightest project you'll hear. We hit a lot of different styles and it's some unheard of shit.

Is there anything you want your fans to know about you?
I want everyone to know that despite my battle rap persona, I'm actually a really nice person and I LOVE TO PLAY VIDEOGAMES! League of Legends, Counter-Strike and Quake just to name a few favorites. I was even sponsored back in the day and won a bit of money playing.

                                                                                    "Keep it squeaky!" -Fresco

Be sure to watch out for Fresco's upcoming project titled "MMXVII (2017)".

Big Remo: Sleepwalkers

Big Remo is a Winston Salem, NC native who began writing lyrics at the age of 12. From living a life of hardships being raised as a young African American in a challenging community, Big Remo found a way to channel his thoughts and creative spirit. Big Ree lived a life of his own, being independent since the age of 15. His major influences included artist such as Slick Rick to producers such as 9th Wonder. Big Remo sets the bar high as a southern rapper by bringing a new school feel to an old school soul. He currently represents as an artist for Jamla Records created by 9th Wonder himself.

I got a chance to call up Big Remo and interview him. It felt great to sit down and talk to an artist who actually KNOWS music and its origin.

How did you come up with the name Big Remo?
I always loved the movie Beat Street. There was one character by the name of Ramo. He was a graffiti artist and he had a cinematic view in each of his pieces. Beat street was huge in the Hip Hop community. So 9th asked me one day "What are you going to call yourself?" He knows Hip Hop more than almost anyone in the world so I told him, "I love the movie Beat Street." Like Ramo, I also have a cinematic vision.

What really made you decide to take Hip Hop and music seriously as a career?
It really was just 9th Wonder mainly believing in me. 9th called me one day and was like "David Banner is coming through to get on this track with you. Bring your lawyers there's business involved."  I met David Banner and we worked together. I was like "David Banner wants to work with me?" That's what really got me started, 9th believing in me.
How did your collaboration with 9th wonder begin?
I was in a group of 3. I was on a track but I wasn't taking it serious. His brothers wife passed a demo and we were having fun. Getting found was minor dreams at the time. So 9th's sister in law passed it on and I was on the last track. As soon as he heard my verse he loved it. He said "That dude right dude is dope." That was a little after 9th started pushing Little Brother. He told me to take it serious and move over to Raleigh and come out to record with him at Fat Beats. That's how it all started.

My favorite 2 tracks off Sleepwalkers is "Swiss Cheese" and "They Gon Hate." What is your favorite track on the album?
It would have to be "Go Ladies pt 2" featuring Bun B and Bluu Suede.

The first track I have ever heard from you was "Slumdog Millionaire" produced by 9th Wonder. When was that track recorded?
I know the exact date. It was on April 19th, 2011.

Do you have any piece of advice for your fans?
"We are not presidents or civil rights activist but we are still people. I come from Winston Salem, I know where I come from but I also know exactly where I need to be. That's what you should also be thinking of."

J Dilla: Dillatroit

Legendary Hip Hop Producer/Artist/Dj, J Dilla is said to have his own 12-track vinyl released may 25, 2012. The record is said to be a sampling of selections from the Rebirth of Detroit LP, due June 12th by Ruff Draft Records.

James Dewitt Yancey (J Dilla) was from Detroit, Michigan. He played a major role in underground Hip Hop as well as mainstream. From working with artist such as A Tribe Called Quest, Janet Jackson, Slum Village, Common, Madlib, Mos Def, and Erykah Badu, Dilla has easily gained a spot being one of the most influential and straight up illest producers of all time. He passed away in 2006 due to a rare blood disease known as thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. Fans started noticing the seriousness of his illness in 2005 when Dilla toured in a wheelchair.

I grew up in the 90's during the Golden Age of hip hop. Dilla's new vinyl will definitely show the younger generation what it is that Hip Hop lacks today by giving us a remembrance of the past.

The Record contains 12 tracks, which are listed below.

1. Birthright
2. Feel This Shit
3. The Best That Ever Did It
4. Lets Pray Together
5. Ride Wit It
6. Say My Name
7. Dillatroit
8. Detroit Madness
9. Possible
10. Mind Yo Business
11. Rebirth is Necessary
12. Pitfalls

Dumbfoundead

I first heard of Dumbfoundead a few years back, while watching one of his freestyle videos. I downloaded a series onto my Ipod called, "G4Techs freestyle 101". Every episode featured a group or solo artist reciting either a written or a freestyle off the top. This particular episode I downloaded consisted of a group called Thirsty Fish.

Fast forward a few years after and I am on YouTube watching freestyle battles from GrindTimeNow. After seeing Dumbfoundead murder PH (Pumpkin Head), it was then I realized Dumbfoundead is the same Guy who was freestyling on G4Tech back when he was in Thirsty Fish.

Dumbfoundead is a Korean rapper who resides in Koreatown, LA. He blew up on YouTube featuring with acts such as EOM, D Pryde, Andrew Garcia, Sahtyre, Wax, Duke Westlake, DJ Zo, and his home base, KnocksteadyTV.

Dumbfoundead is a Creator of dope music and one of my favorite artist of all time. He will be performing this Friday in midtown NYC at Elluii. Come out and support Hip Hop. I am definitely going to be there and hopefully I will be allowed to film the event.

You can also download his latest EP which dropped February 14, 2012 titled Love Everyday, by clicking the link.

Platinum League: Hip Hop Trading Cards

Growing up as a kid I collected all sorts of collectibles, Pogs, trading cards, Gundam models, and comics, to name a few. Out of them all, trading cards has become so popular from having a holographic Ancient Mew card, or a rookie Michael Jordan card, its value will only go up in a matter of time. Throughout the years I have seen some ridiculous takes on incorporating real life with that fantasy world of being able to have control over certain characters. For example the film Space Jam or even having Action figures of your favorite basketball players. Let's see how Platinum League works out.

Recently a company named Platinum League has released the “first ever interactive hip-hop trading cards.” Each card will feature a specific artist, their highlights throughout their career, and a little bit of background info.

Ballerstatus.com states “Each card also comes with a QRL code that links to exclusive video content from each artist, accessible from any smart phone or mobile device (thanks to their free app The League Media Player)." Like any other pack of trading cards, each pack will consist of 5 cards, and a 6th which will be redeemable for prizes such as cars, Rolex watches, cash, etc.

Some of the Artist that are featured in the Platinum League series include E-40, Notorious BIG, Mindless Behavior, 2 Pac, Devin the Dude, and Trina.

Lupe Fiasco: Food & Liquor 2

Hip Hop artist and Chicago native, Lupe Fiasco, confirmed to be releasing a double album. Food & Liquor 2 is Lupe's 4th album. He strides to give his audience what exactly pushed him to make the original Food & Liquor album back in 2006.

Over the years fans have said Lupe has lost his touch. Either it be his focus on life, politics, or personal issues, Lupe has not given us what he did back in the Food & Liquor days. He had a few dope tracks on "Lasers", but then again it wasn't Food & Liquor quality. I remember turning on MTV and watching Kanye West's video for "Touch the Sky" back in 2006. Lupe came on for his verse and I remember my cousin Mike telling me "Yo who is that guy, he's nice." I always trusted my cousins judgement in music and found Lupe to be one of my favorite artists down the road.

Recently Lupe has become very involved in politics and the whole "Occupy All Streets" movement. Throughout all of that he still managed to pull off this dual-album. I am honestly excited to hear what Lupe has in store for us. He stated "I wanted to go back to the essence of what made that record so special, the frame of mind I was in when I did Food & Liquor the first time. It’s the Lupe Fiasco I want to be, without the industry constraints, without the trying to please the hardcore fans or get the new fans. It’s just what I would do for myself if nobody ever heard it. This is the kind of music I would make. It’s a masterpiece. It’s real fucking good."

You can purchase the Original food & Liquor here at www.itunes.com/foodandliquor

9th Wonder: Tutankhamen

Patrick "9th Wonder" Douhit, is an educator, Dj, Producer, Member of the Zulu Nation, Artist, Chief of Jamla Army, and a great asset to Hip Hop.

Today is a great day in Hip Hop, as 9th Wonder will be releasing a 40-track beat tape via Ustream. The Tape will then be sold on Dj Booth later on.

9th Wonder chose to go with the image of a Pharaoh, Tutankhamen, for the cover of the tape, the Egyptian Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty. I can't wait to hear the tape. 9th Wonder has never let me down and will always be one of my biggest inspirations.

Beastie Boys Member Passes Away At Age 47

Adam Yauch (MCA), of the Iconic rap trio, The Beastie Boys, has passed away this Friday morning due to a long-term battle with cancer, at the age of 47.

The Global grind website ran by Russell Simmons, had announced the news earlier this morning. Ever since 2009, Adam had been low-key due to a tumor found in his salivary gland.

The Beastie Boys were founded as a Punk-Rock band back in 1979 and then signed by Island Def Jam Records in 1984, by Russell Simmons. The Beastie Boys climbed the Billboard charts granting themselves a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame with songs such as "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" and "Brass monkey". Over the years, Adam has had an adventurous career by becoming a filmmaker, visionary, practiced monk, Producer, and entertainer.

As a fan of Hip Hop, and being an artist myself, this is a huge loss. Not only do we lose such an iconic artist but also we are losing a chunk of history. The Beastie Boys paved way for so many other artist, Adam will never be forgotten.

Kennie Dubb: Running Away

Hip Hop has grown over the years and like any other culture, it has adapted and been influenced by so much more. Kennie Dubb is an Artist from the Bronx, NY, who uses many influences, and life experiences to create Life within audio. A 4 minute track is nowhere near enough time to express emotion and depict ideas, that's why KD uses Music Visuals to further express himself. His latest video is titled "Running Away".

Running Away is the third official music video from Kennie Dubb’s upcoming independently released album, “Audio’s Oasis”. Running Away is a short music visual conveying transition from the past and things that may have failed, altered, or held back as an artist, toward a progressive and brighter future.

The video is Directed and Edited by Kennie Dubb’s younger brother, film director, Jaison BlackRose. KD and Jaison wanted to “depict an abstract desolate yet rebellious side, and use the ambiance of a night in the north east Bronx to show the evasion of pain and hurt” hence running away to a better place. Running away abruptly concludes with a continuance into the next stage of Kennie’s odyssey, which will be picked up in the next upcoming follow up visual “Bi Polar”, slated to be released early May 2012.
Overall it is a brilliant, creative, and exciting piece, as Kennie takes us through his journey through Audio Oasis.

A-Class: Deathsuit

A-Class is a Korean rapper who grew up outside of Baltimore. He started rhyming with friends and at school with influences such as Wu-Tang, Nas, and Mos Def. His first battle was at the beach, in which he had won. From there A-Class went on to compete in events/battles all around Baltimore. He attended scribble Jam between 2007-2008. From there he met battle rapper PH, formerly Pumpkin Head. PH, which hosts many Grindtime battles on the east coast, then gave A-Class a chance in GrindTime. From there his career kicked into gear. He recently just released his second album, Deathsuit. Watch the video to the first single from the EP here, So Filthy  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k50TDAuGPDQ . DOPE!

What is the meaning behind the name "A-Class"?
"Someone gave me the name per say, thy was like "you a-class", meaning top notch I suppose. It just stuck. I later came up with the acronym, Aaron Creates Lyrical Art So Simply."

How did you begin making music?
"I began making music with friends that I met from around MD. They had home studios and such. I still record at home studios, I like the quiet and peace it makes me relax and be creative."

Who is the first celebrity you have ever met?
"First celeb, well battlers were celebs to me. When I first started battling and met Thesaurus, that was like huge! I've seen a lot of big names but never have introduced myself. Ghostface, Slick Rick, Blast Master Krs-One (who by the way has THE illest live show I've seen), and Slug."

Who do you wish to collaborate with in the future?
"My dream collabs are DJ Premier and MIA. Realistic collabs are D-Pryde and NoCanDo. They are both kinda too famous to me too haha!"

How has GrindTime impact your career?
GT (GrindTime) has signings that boosted and helped me in many ways. If it weren't for GT/KOTD (King Of The Dot), I probably would not be making music and rhyming still. I've been able to reach thousands of people World Wide. Thank you "battle scene".

Message to your fans:
"Enjoy music and Hip Hop culture, support good artist, and don't be fooled by marketing and pop opinions. Most of all enjoy the music and artist YOU enjoy and love! Also support AA artist we coming up! Well a lot of them are already there, but I am hot on ya trail!"

Exclusive Interview: Dyme-A-Duzin

A Portrait of Donnovan:
Dyme-A-Duzin is a signed artist from Brooklyn, New York. His career boosted from being a Youtube sensation and now only reaching greater heights after signing to Warner Bro. Records. The difference between Dyme and other rappers is simply in my eyes Dyme isn't a typical rapper, he's an emcee who is only going to keep growing over time. He has opened up for artist such as Kreayshawn, Red cafe, B.O.B, Theophilus London, and Naughty By Nature.

Being a fan of Dyme myself since about 2009, two of my favorite joints Dyme has put out are "I Hate High School" and "The rebirth Of Swag". That's not to mention tracks off of the Phony Ppl album, "PhonyLand". I had the honor to ask Dyme a few questions about his career and how it all got started.

What is your biggest inspiration when it comes to music?

I really look up to artists like Eminem & Kanye West when it comes to lyrics. They've always been consistently clever with their verses and songs. My number one musical influence is probably Michael Jackson though. Every artist strives to be like Mike.

What made you decide to start taking music seriously?

It's just what I love to do. When I was younger I was really into art. I was one of top art students in my school. I used to draw cartoons and even real people. So I wasn't always a musician. Around the age of 11, I really started taking my time to write songs. It became what I love to do most.

What is the story behind the name "Dyme-A-Duzin"?

Years back I heard someone say "rappers come a dime-a-dozen". I've always been a rule breaker so when I was 11, I decided to take the term "dime-A-dozen" and flip the meaning. I thought "this term is used negatively, why not make it positive?". How about I name myself Dyme-A-Duzin, which means that I'm common and replaceable but be the best rapper I can be? I ironically surprise a listener whenever they listen to my music. I strive for greatness everyday in honor of all the rule breakers around the world.

What is your most favorite collaboration so far?

I enjoy collaborating with Plain Pat and Dj Kaslo. We're working on a project now. It's been pretty dope so far, just can't wait for the people to hear it.

Be sure to cop Dyme-A-Duzin's latest mixtape "20=X", hosted by Plain Pat.
You can download all of Dyme-A-Duzin's projects here at www.iamdyme.com

"What's going on people? This is Dyme-A-Duzin and you are now tuned into Good Vibes! "A Portrait of Donnovan" coming soon! New Videos coming soon! I'm back on my b.s! stay tuned."

My choice is Macklemore. I have been listening to his tracks for the past few months and I really enjoy his tracks. "Otherside" remix x Ryan Lewis and Fences by far is one of my favorite songs from this new generation of music. I am not that much of a fan of the XXL Freshman lists, but it's always refreshing hearing new artists.
